In November 2023, Emotional Perception AI paved the way for AI Innovation in the UK by securing a landmark ruling in the High Court which opened the doors for Artificial Intelligence (AI) Entrepreneurs and Investors Seeking Patent Protection in the UK.
The case centred on a technique that trains an ANN to perceive content in a similar way to human attitudes and mental interpretation. The innovation focuses on closing the “semantic gap,” which is the difference between reality and what the ANN suggests is reality. Closing the semantic gap has often been described as the ‘holy grail’ in AI technology.

In view of EPAI’s position in the vanguard of world-leading AI developers, this case is now [2025] in appeal before the UK Supreme Court as docket SC 2024/0131. A resulting seminal decision in early 2026, reflecting both EPAI’s leadership in Ai and its conviction to secure important USPs and a return on commercial investment, will decide what amounts to a computer and computer programs and, furthermore, both the protectable nature of ANNs and the extent of how applied 21st century computer-implemented technologies are protectable.
